(VIDEO) The Life and Death of Mexican Influencer Valeria Marquez

In a shocking and deeply tragic turn of events, Mexican beauty influencer Valeria Márguez, affectionately known online as Val, was sh**t and k!lled during a live TikTok broadcast on May 13, 2025. The incident took place inside her beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco, while she was interacting with fans in what seemed like just another regular livestream.
At just 23 years old, Val was more than a social media star; she was a beauty queen, entrepreneur, daughter, and friend. With nearly 200,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram, she was known for her upbeat personality, polished beauty tips, and glimpses into her luxurious lifestyle. From beauty tutorials and salon vlogs to travel diaries and heartfelt Q&As, Valeria built an authentic and deeply engaged following.
Her rise began in 2021 after winning the Miss Rostro beauty pageant, and she quickly transitioned into full-time influencing and business. She founded Blossom The Beauty Lounge, a boutique salon that catered to high-end clientele in Guadalajara.
A Livestream That Ended in Horror
The livestream started like many others, with Val chatting, sharing beauty tips, and engaging warmly with her viewers. But about 10 minutes in, she paused, looking visibly uneasy. “I think I’m going to end the live… someone just sent me a strange gift,” she reportedly told her viewers. That would be her final message.
Moments later, a man entered the salon posing as a delivery person. He handed Valeria Márquez a coffee and small gift, believed to be a stuffed animal, and then, in front of a live audience, pulled out a firearm and shot her multiple times.
Those who watched were left in disbelief and perplexed, wondering whether what they had just seen was real. Shortly after, authorities confirmed that Val had been declared dead at the scene.
The news quickly spread across Mexican and global social media. Fans, fellow influencers, and public figures expressed their condolences and disbelief. Outside her salon, supporters left flowers, candles, and written tributes, turning the space where she built her dream into a memorial.
“She was always smiling, always encouraging others to love themselves,” one follower posted. “She didn’t deserve this. No one does.”
The attack is currently being investigated as a femicide, a classification under Mexican law for gender-based k!llings. While rumors have circulated online about possible motives or personal ties, authorities have yet to confirm any details, urging the public not to speculate as the investigation continues.
One disturbing clue emerged the next day when someone left a bouquet of red roses at the salon with a note that read simply, “Sorry.” Whether this was from the perpetrator or someone else is still under investigation.

Valeria Márquez’s death has once again shone a light on the growing threat of gender-based violence, particularly against women who are active in the public and digital space. Mexico continues to struggle with alarmingly high rates of femicide, with an average of 10 women killed daily due to gender-based violence.
It can be extremely difficult to distinguish between admiration and obsession for female influencers like Val, who frequently share details of their lives with the public.
Behind the glamour and followers, Val was a young woman pursuing her passion. It is not appropriate to dismiss her death as just another viral sensation. She left behind a digital legacy that inspired many, and she was loved and significant.
Even though her final video was tragic, it serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers that come with being famous online and the pressing need for improved protections for women in all areas of life.
Valeria Márquez should be remembered not for how she died, but for how she lived with grace, creativity, and a relentless drive to build something of her own. As her family and fans mourn, we must continue to amplify the call for justice and accountability in cases of gender-based violence.
May she rest in peace, and may her story inspire change.
